Dr. Kathy Cardinal, MD, CCFP

Cardinal_headhsotDr. Cardinal completed a degree in cellular, molecular and microbial biology with a minor in women’s studies. This was followed by a degree in medicine at the University of Calgary and a Family Medicine residency at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in 2000. She has worked in urban and rural settings, including breastfeeding clinics. She also works as a clinical assistant at the Grey Nuns Hospital and a Community Perinatal Program physician. She is passionate about evidence-informed practice, compassionate maternity care and the social/community aspects of medicine. She enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Dr. Leeor Eliyahu, MD, CCFP

Eliyahu_headhsotDr. Eliyahu was born in Israel and raised in Edmonton. She began her university career at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, but later returned to Edmonton where she completed her undergraduate, medical school and family medicine residency training at the University of Alberta. Dr. Eliyahu enjoys working in various settings within family medicine including: women’s health, rural medicine, acute care, and general practice. She also enjoys teaching medical students in both classroom and clinical settings. Outside of work, she loves being a mama to twin girls, running, watching hockey, traveling within our beautiful country and exploring new ones and, of course, eating her husband’s delicious cooking.

Dr. Alyssa England, MD, CCFP

England_headhsotDr. England was born and raised in the Edmonton area. She completed her undergraduate degree (Physiology), as well as medical school at the University of Alberta. Dr. England loves having a varied practice including general family practice, minor procedures, teaching as well as providing maternity care. She teaches both medical students and residents. When she isn’t working, she loves traveling, baking, practicing yoga, and running. She has completed several half marathons and a full marathon.

Dr. Jack Hong, MD, CCFP

Dr. Hong completed all his education here in Edmonton, including his Family Medicine residency. He developed an interest in prenatal care during his residency and happily joined this practice at the start of 2022. His practice varies from acute inpatient care, emergency room psychiatric care, and maternity care. Much like his work, he is constantly looking for his next hobby/passion. Currently, it seems to be setting up his little backyard garden, making pizza, cooking ramen, and badminton.

Dr. Scott Johns, MD, CCFP

Dr. Johns was born and raised in Edmonton. He completed his medical school with the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and Regina before returning to Edmonton for his family medicine residency. Dr. Johns enjoys the breadth of family medicine and outside of maternity care works in general practice, mental health, and acute care settings. Outside of the hospital he loves spending time with his wife and two dogs, playing the drums, and indoor bouldering.

Dr. Cynthia Kwong, MD, CCFP

Kwong_headhsotDr. Kwong was born in Edmonton and raised in Calgary. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences as well as medical school at the University of Calgary. She completed her family medicine residency training at the University of Alberta. She loves the diversity of family medicine which includes general practice, prenatal care and some minor procedures. In her spare time, she likes to sing, stay active and travel to places she’s never been before.

Dr. Freda Lo, MD, CCFP

Lo_headhsotDr. Lo graduated from the University of Alberta with her MD in 2004 after which she completed her residency in Family Practice. She was born and raised in Edmonton. She has a family practice in west Edmonton and loves to practice obstetrics. Dr. Lo is a renowned teacher of medical residents. She also enjoys biking, volleyball and spending time with her two children and husband.

Dr. Tessa Penrod, MD, CCFP

Penrod_headhsotDr. Penrod was born and raised in northern Alberta. She completed her medical degree at the University of Alberta in 2003, and went on to do her residency in Moncton, New Brunswick through the Dalhousie program. She practiced in New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba before returning to Alberta in 2011. She is passionate about maternal and newborn health, as well as social justice locally and abroad. In addition to maternity care, she has a full scope family practice in Beaumont. Outside the office, she has three children and enjoys gardening, swimming, and reading.

Dr. Ginetta Salvalaggio, MD, CCFP

Salvalaggio_headhsotDr. Salvalaggio grew up in central Alberta and is an almost-lifelong Albertan. She completed her residency in Family Medicine in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. Professional interests include patient engagement, transitions in care, urban underserved populations, and addiction medicine. Personal interests include getting outside and off grid (especially the mountains), growing and cooking good food, and music. La Dre Salvalaggio parle français.

Dr. Andrew Swinton, MD, CCFP

Swinton_headhsotDr. Swinton joined the practice in September of 2010 after he and his family moved to the Edmonton area. He comes to us after many years of experience in family practice, including comprehensive rural care, maternity care and deliveries in Three Hills, Alberta. Prior to this, he lived and worked in the NWT, and Haiti before returning to Alberta. Dr. Swinton is a graduate of the University of Alberta and University of Calgary, is dad to four boys, and has years of experience teaching residents.

Dr. Jennine Wismark, MD, CCFP

Wismark_headshotDr. Wismark grew up in the Yukon. She braved moving to the terrifying big city of Calgary in order to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology in 1994. In 1996, she moved again, this time to Edmonton where she attended medical school at the University of Alberta, receiving her MD With Distinction in 2000 and pursuing her post-graduate medical education in Family Medicine in 2002. She is a family physician at both Heritage Medical Clinic in SW Edmonton and at Millwoods Maternity Care Clinic. Dr. Wismark has a special interest in maternity care for socially disadvantaged people and in trauma-informed care. She is also interested in medical leadership and has an Associate Chief Medical Officer position with Covenant Health focusing on physician wellness and quality care. When not busy being a physician, teacher, mother and spouse, she enjoys hiking in the mountains.
Millwoods Maternity Care Clinic is a teaching institute affiliated with the University of Alberta and we invite residents to work with our physicians from time to time.
