Dr. Kathy Cardinal, MD, CCFP
After having three children and working as a waitress, sous-chef, driving instructor, bookkeeper and business manager, Dr. Cardinal completed a degree in cellular, molecular and microbial biology with a minor in women’s studies. This was followed by a degree in medicine at the University of Calgary. She then completed her Family Medicine residency at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in 2000. She has worked in various urban and rural settings, including breastfeeding clinics. She also works as a clinical assistant at the Grey Nuns Hospital and as one of the Community Perinatal Program physicians. She is passionate about evidence-informed practice, compassionate maternity care and the social/community aspects of medicine.
Dr. Alyssa England, MD, CCFP
Dr. England was born and raised in the Edmonton area. She completed her undergraduate degree (Physiology), as well as medical school at the University of Alberta. Dr. England loves having a varied practice including general family practice, minor procedures, teaching as well as providing maternity care. She teaches both medical students and residents. When she isn’t working, she loves traveling, baking, practicing yoga, and running. She has completed several half marathons and a full marathon.
Dr. Cynthia Kwong, MD, CCFP
Dr. Kwong was born in Edmonton and raised in Calgary. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences as well as medical school at the University of Calgary. She completed her family medicine residency training at the University of Alberta. She loves the diversity of family medicine which includes general practice, prenatal care and some minor procedures. In her spare time, she likes to sing, stay active and travel to places she’s never been before.
Dr. Freda Lo, MD, CCFP
Dr. Lo graduated from the University of Alberta with her MD in 2004 after which she completed her residency in Family Practice. She was born and raised in Edmonton. She has a family practice in west Edmonton and loves to practice obstetrics. Dr. Lo is a renowned teacher of medical residents. She also enjoys biking, volleyball and spending time with her two children and husband.
Dr. Kelly MacGregor, MD, CCFP
Dr. MacGregor was born and raised in Leduc, AB. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta in Biological Sciences and Women’s Studies. Dr. MacGregor then worked in clinical research at the Grey Nuns Hospital before attending medical school at the University of Calgary. Dr. MacGregor loves her job as a family doctor and feels very fortunate to work with her patients and their families. She is passionate about physiologic birth and providing families a comfortable prenatal & birth experience. Aside from providing comprehensive, all-ages family medicine, Dr. MacGregor’s specific professional interests include;

- Trans / Gender Medicine
- Breastfeeding and Infant Nutrition
- Medical Education
When not working, Dr. MacGregor enjoys road and mountain biking. She is also an avid back-country hiker and always has at least one Pinterest project on the go.
Dr. Erica Paras, MD, CCFP
Originally from Calgary AB, Erica moved to Vancouver for her University on a field hockey scholarship. She attended Simon Fraser University for her Bachelor and Masters of Science. She attended the University of British Columbia for her Medical School. During this time she and her husband lived at the Ronald McDonald House as the nighttime house managers. Residency brought her to Edmonton, and she has fallen in love with the city. She practices as a general family doctor with a special interest in women’s care. During the week, she is actively involved in obstetrics, gynecology, surgical assisting and general family medicine care. Outside of work, she keeps very active enjoying Edmonton’s outdoor life: mountain biking, running with her dog through the trails and exploring Edmonton’s food scene.
Dr. Tessa Penrod, MD, CCFP
Dr. Penrod comes to us from a family practice in Saskatoon and is a graduate of the University of Alberta. She has three children and has a family practice in Beaumont.
Dr. Ginetta Salvalaggio, MD, CCFP
Dr. Salvalaggio completed her residency in Family Medicine in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta and a member of both the CFPC and SOGC. Academic interests include obstetrics, early childhood, cross-cultural issues, urban marginalized groups and addiction medicine. Dr. Salvalaggio is going on sabbatical for one year beginning July 1, 2017.
Dr. Andrew Swinton, MD, CCFP
Dr. Swinton joined the practice in September of 2010 after he and his family moved to the Edmonton area. He comes to us after many years of experience in family practice, including comprehensive rural care, maternity care and deliveries in Three Hills, Alberta. Prior to this, he lived and worked in the NWT, and Haiti before returning to Alberta. Dr. Swinton is a graduate of the University of Alberta and University of Calgary, is dad to four boys, and has years of experience teaching residents.
Millwoods Maternity Care Clinic is a teaching institute affiliated with the University of Alberta and we invite residents to work with our physicians from time to time.
